It’s Approved! The Village at Lake Norman (Part 1) is approved!

April 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

In a historic vote (that took 3 days to finally get to), the Cornelius Town Board has approved rezoning of 105 +/- acres for the Village at Lake Norman. It was a close 3-2 vote. Approvals are still needed from the county and state, which gives 2010 as the earliest start date of this project. Developers Cornelius Bormont are anticipating at least a 6 year build out for the project.

Chad, the county commissioners are the next big hurdle for the developers of the planned Village at Lake Norman. Getting them to rebate back property taxes to cover the cost of the road improvements might be a challenge.
It’s unfortunate that this project, while appearing to be a plus for Cornelius, could be a big problem for nearby Huntersville. At stake is Northcross Shopping Center, and increased traffic at the already congested intersection of Hwy 73 & 21. It will be interesting to see the next step.
